There are many forms of myofascial release. At Advance Rehabilitation and Conditioning the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach™ is the treatment of choice because it has consistently demonstrated maximal effectiveness in the majority of cases.
This version of myofascial release is a hands-on treatment that applies gentle pressure or stretch to areas of tightness. It is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or lotions to prevent sliding.
This gentle pressure is applied for 90 seconds to 5 minutes in order to facilitate permanent changes in the elastic component of the connective tissue and complex aspects of the neurofascial system.
Forceful techniques trigger an automatic protective response by the neurofascial system. The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach™ involves the practitioner “tuning in” to the location of the fascial restrictions present via a sense of touch and working with the body to help it self-correct through gentle range of motion and pressure.
This approach is backed by scientific research and decades of successful case studies all over the world even with extremely complex cases.
Your first session includes review of your health history and an opportunity for you to share your story. There will be an evaluation, hands-on treatment, and home self-treatment instruction. The evaluation includes assessing joint motion, posture, and other physical tests.
This information, combined with your symptoms, health history, imaging results, and personal goals will guide the treatment. Your first session will last one hour.
The John F. Barnes method of myofascial release (MFR) is gentle and never forceful. Therefore, the pressure applied is always sensitive to what your body needs and within your tolerance. As pressure is applied into areas of tightness, sometimes a warmth or sense of stretch or tension is felt.
As the tissue releases, tightness eases, pain is relieved, and body alignment changes. After a treatment session, some people experience short-term soreness as the body accommodates to the change. Likely you will experience a reduction in symptoms, increased energy levels, and improved sleep patterns after a treatment session.
Do you want to be well?
Do you understand that authentic healing is a process that requires active participation on your part?
If you answered “yes” to the above, you are the perfect client and we look forward to working with you.
Every person’s healing journey is unique. Factors which influence the time frame include how long the pain or stiffness has been present, the mechanism and type of injury, and how much time and energy you can put toward your healing process each week.
Some feel differences right away, while others require a number of sessions to achieve their goals. If your soft tissue structures (muscle and connective tissue also called “fascia”) are restricted, and you are open to the process of releasing it out of a desire for wellness you can join the thousands who have been powerfully helped by MFR.
If you have specific questions about your situation, feel free to call and speak directly with the staff at Advance Rehabilitation and Conditioning.
The myofascial system is made up of the muscles and fascia (hence-forth called connective tissue) that surround and support our nerves and bones. Specialized imaging and research how shown that connective tissue tubules are fluid filled, gelatinous, strong and elastic, forming a network that surrounds and attaches to all the structures in our body from head to toe.
This web-like matrix shapes and stabilizes our cells, organs, bones, vessels, nerves, and muscles. Fascia provides structure to our form, and allows for our body’s fluidity due to the ability of the matrix to morph with movement. When the layers stick together, connective tissue becomes dehydrated, limiting movement and putting pressure on nerves and joints. Research has also indicated that the fascial system transmits information through the body faster than nerves. This communication breaks down with connective tissue restrictions leading to neurofascial imbalances.
When looking in the mirror, is your posture crooked?
Do you have pain?
Is it hard to stand or sit up straight for extended periods of time?
Do your muscles feel tight?
Do you feel overly tired?
Has your doctor diagnosed you with myofascial syndrome?
An answer of “yes” to any of the above questions indicates probable fascial restrictions. A skilled myofascial release (MFR) clinician can confirm fascial restrictions through a physical evaluation. In most cases John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach™ can release fascial restrictions gently and efficiently without time consuming re-training programs.
Advance Rehabilitation and Conditioning is an out-of-network physical therapy provider. Payment in full is accepted at the time of service with check, credit card, or cash. A superbill will be provided at your request for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement at the out-of-network rate.
Injuries, surgeries, or significant illnesses of the past or recent history can cause restriction in your myofascial system, which may be contributing to your symptoms. Often a person has absorbed a number of injuries to the system and been able to compensate for them without much perceived difficulty until they had the incident which was the “straw which broke the camel’s back.”
Healing in the myofascial system is a dynamic process which involves every aspect of your life and being. You may need to modify certain activities for a season as you heal. Your healing process may require certain stretches or exercises to be accomplished regularly on your own at home.
Your program will always be tailored to your goals and abilities and at your own pace. As you learn how to better care for your own well-being you will be empowered to live a high quality life unencumbered by pain.
